Leadership:

Grant A. Pierce, Founder and CEO

Grant co-founded Sonics in September 1996. Prior to Sonics, he held technology industry executive roles at MicroUnity Systems Engineering, Inc., ParcPlace Systems, and was the corporate controller for MIPS Computer Systems, Inc. Grant’s professional history also includes positions at Convergent Technologies, Inc., ITT Qume, and Arthur Andersen and Co. Grant serves on the board of directors of the Electronic System Design Alliance. He received a B.S. in Business Administration-Accounting from California State University, Hayward and is a former certified public accountant.

Drew E. Wingard, Ph.D., Founder and CTO

Drew co-founded Sonics in September 1996. He has been awarded 30 US patents during his timesonicsinc-headshot-drew-wingard at Sonics. Prior to Sonics, Drew held R&D positions at MicroUnity Systems Engineering, Inc. and Pomegranate Technology. He received a B.S. from the University of Texas, Austin and an M.S. and a Ph.D. from Stanford University, all in Electrical Engineering.

 

Martin M. Kovacich, CFO

Marty has served as Chief Financial Officer since June 2003. Prior to Sonics , he held senior sonicsinc-headshot-martin-kovacichtechnology industry positions at Intel Corporation and Trillium Digital Systems, Inc. Marty also worked in the Technology Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He received a B.S. in Accounting from San Diego State University and is a former certified public accountant.

 

Chien-Chun (Joe) Chou, Ph.D., Vice President of Engineering

Joe has served as Vice President of Engineering since April 2013 and was previously sonicsinc-headshot-joe-chouVice President and General Manager of Sonics Taiwan and Director of Engineering. Prior to joining Sonics, he was an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Information Engineering Department of Tamkang University, Taipei, Taiwan. Joe also held engineering positions at HAL/Fujitsu System Technology and Intel. He has more than 20 patents issued around the world. Joe received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from University of Iowa, Iowa City.

Marcelle Loveday, Vice President of Major Accounts

Marcelle has served as Vice President of Major Accounts since 2002. Under her watch, Sonics sonicsinc-headshot-marcelle-lovedayestablished executive-level and engineering relationships with several of the world’s top semiconductor companies including Intel, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Texas Instruments, Toshiba America, and Marvell. Prior to Sonics, Marcelle held director and management positions with Wyle Design Services, Advanced Micro Devices, and Monolithic Memories. She received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University.

Hayssam Balach, Vice President of Global Sales

Hayssam has served as Vice President of Global Sales since 2013 and was previously Vice President sonicsinc-headshot-hayssam-balachof Operations for Europe andAsia. Prior to re-joining Sonics in 2013, he served as Senior Vice President for Business Development at the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority. Hayssam has also held positions at MIPS Technologies, Toshiba, Hitachi, and Seiko Epson. He holds an M.S. in Computer Engineering from Santa Clara University and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from University of California, Santa Cruz.
